Has the SAG Strike Threat Finally Been Put to Rest?

We were all holding our breath as we waited to hear whether the SAG Strike has been averted.

The commercial contract was passed not too long ago. Though some were not entirely thrilled with the outcome, including Alan Rosenberg, the SAG President, most SAG members were happy about it or at least relieved by it.  That made it look much less likely that a SAG Strike would occur.

So, you may be wondering what the outcome is from the vote on whether to accept the new theatrical contract. Did SAG members vote to accept the theatrical contract and finally put the threat of a SAG Strike to rest?

The following information was announced by the Screen Actors Guild on June 9, 2009:

SAG members voted to approve the new TV/Theatrical contracts, 78 percent to 22 percent.

This is a 2-year agreement covering film and digital television programs, motion pictures and new media productions. The contract went into effect on June 10, 2009 and will expire June 30, 2011.

So, yes,  the SAG members voted YES to the new theatrical contract.  This contract is now in effect.

To view more information on what is actually in the new contracts, go to the Screen Actors Guild website.

In two years, the major issues will be addressed again, and maybe more progress can be made at that time.

But for now, the SAG Strike threat has been put to rest, and the tv and film industry can hopefully begin to move forward again.

Now there is the economic hurdle to get over.  Hopefully, that will be happening soon as well.
