What is the Status on the SAG Strike?
The SAG strike has been looming on the horizon for many months now. There has mostly been a stream of bad news and failed negotiations concerning coming to an agreement.
There has also been a lot of disagreement within the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) on whether to call for a SAG vote on whether to allow a strike or not (See Is The SAG Strike Still Really Up in the Air? and What Will a SAG Strike Mean to the Entertainment Industry? for additional details.)
Things have not looked good for the entertainment industry on this front. But spring is in the air, and I, for one, am feeling happy that things are really beginning to look up.
So, “What is the status on the SAG Strike?”
In a recent email sent out to Screen Actors Guild members this week, Alan Rosenberg, president of SAG, announced that “the Joint SAG/AFTRA Commercial Contracts Negotiating Committee reached a tentative agreement with advertisers” after six long weeks of negotiations.
This is certainly good news for the Screen Actors Guild, AFTRA (American Federation of Television and Radio Artists), advertisers, and all of the entertainment industry. Thanks to the negotiators for a job well done!
Everyone involved with the entertainment industry is viewing this good news with a sigh of relief.
They will also stay tuned for more announcements about the SAG Strike on the SAG website in the near future. Additional information on the details of this contract will be provided when they become available.
Hopefully, a final commercial contract will be completed very soon.
And hopefully, negotiations for a theatrical contract will proceed and achieve the same sort of success as achieved by the commercial contract negotiators.

Strikes can be very hard on companies and workers alike but sometimes it seems that is the only way. Hopefully, there will come a day when strikes are rare.
